Press Release
CASSANDRA BIRD is thrilled to announce the solo exhibition featuring new work by Sydney based artist, Remy Faint. The Tiger’s Mouth is an exhibition of new works by artist Remy Faint, that includes an expansive suite of works ranging from silk and fabric based paintings to ceramic sculptures.
Drawing from collection-based objects and materials specific to his Chinese heritage, Remy examines hybridity, flux and change through an artistic process rooted in cross-material and cultural references. Acknowledging the materiality of silk contextually, that moves between time, place and function, the works in the exhibition offer a renewed perspective on histories of representation and symbology across a hybridity of contemporary and cultural sources. Speculative forms ranging from animals, figures, architecture, foliage and personal archives are mediated with artistic processes that move between high-fired ceramic components, painterly fabric assemblages and silk-based works. Remy Faint is the recipient of the 2024 Art Incubator grant.
Remy Faint (b. 1997) is a Sydney-based artist currently residing and working on Gadigal land. He has a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) First Class from UNSW Art and Design, where he is now undertaking a Master of Fine Arts (Research).
Remy Faint has exhibited at venues, such as Artspace (2024), the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts [PICA] (2022), Cement Fondu (2023), UNSW Galleries (2021), Gosford Regional Gallery (2023) and ADSpace (2023). Remy was selected for the national graduate exhibition Hatched at PICA in 2022, where he received the inaugural Schenberg Art High Commendation Award.
In 2023, Faint received the 2023 Gosford Art Prize and the 2024 Tim Olsen Drawing Prize. He has also been a finalist in the 2023 and 2024 Mosman Art Prize, the Jenny Birt Painting Prize, and the Kudos Emerging Artist Award. In 2023, he presented his first solo exhibition, The Library and the Cave, at Cement Fondu. Most recently, he was recognised as a finalist in the 2024 Create NSW Visual Arts Fellowship (Emerging) at Artspace.
